About Athena Crisis
Athena Crisis is an Open Core original turn-based tactical strategy game that was inspired by Advance Wars.
The source code for the game is MIT licensed and it includes everything from data structures and algorithms to the game engine, rendering, AI, and map editor.
The game content such as the artwork, music, campaigns, et cetera is still proprietary and property of Nakazawa Tech which allows them to still operate as a business and make money from their significant time/monetary investment all while still letting the general public dive right into the code itself.
In addition to the code, Nakazawa Tech has been kind enough to provide comprehensive documentation and tooling, such as the Getting Started Guide for the open source project and the Map Editor which are an excellent way to start your journey.
